FAQ
A cease and desist letter refers to a legally enforceable document which is issued by a government agency that demands a person or entity stop an activity. A cease and desist letter usually arrives when someone unlawfully uses intellectual property, or if there’s a case of harassment, or a case of a contract being violated, etc.
Consult a lawyer on how you should act when you receive a cease and desist letter. Some cases may ask for you to simply comply with it. In other cases, you can create a defense, add evidence to act as proof, and then submit it all to show that you’re innocent of what’s being alleged.
A cease and desist letter can arrive in the following situations: when someone’s intellectual property has been stolen, when there’s a case of harassment, when a contract has been violated, when there’s a case of defamation, when illegal activities are being conducted, or if your behavior is infringing on another party’s rights.
