An exclusive right to sell is a legally binding agreement between the owner of a property and a real estate agent giving the agent the sole right to market and sell the property.
An exclusive right to sell agreement formalizes the relationship between a property owner and a real estate agent, giving the agent the exclusive right to market and sell the property for as long as the agreement remains in place.
After an exclusive right to sell agreement expires, the property owner is free to sign a new listing agreement with another party, sell the property without the use of a real estate agent, or extend the agreement with the original agent.
