A room rental agreement is a legally binding agreement between two parties. Its aim is to ensure the smooth functioning of the household by stating certain expectations and responsibilities of the landlord and tenant. A rental agreement is different from a lease agreement.
A rental room agreement can allow for many tenants to cohabit. This type of situation is known as joint tenancy. A contract which facilities joint tenancy is known as a joint rental agreement. The type of tenancy benefits both the landlord and the tenant as far as finances are considered.
If a renter or a landlord can’t commit to a 12-month lease term, they should use a rental agreement. In the case of longer partnerships, lease agreements would be used.
